This auction is for a Certified ANACS MS-66 graded, 2013 50 Pence (50P), SS GAIRSOPPA, Silver Britannia Coin, minted by the Great Britain (UK) Royal Mint.
The 2013 S.S. Gairsoppa Silver Britannia Coins were the first year in the Royal Mint’s S.S. Gairsoppa Silver Britannia series.
This
1ST YEAR OF MINTAGE
Legal Tender coin is made with actual silver ingots recovered from the S.S. Gairsoppa Shipwreck!
S.S. Gairsoppa story:
The S.S. Gairsoppa was sunk after it was torpedoed by German u-boats in 1941. The ship went down with a massive load of silver that was recovered recently. The Royal Mint used this recovered silver to create this Britannia Silver Coin.
This 2013 Silver Britannia has been produced with 1/4 troy ounce of .999 pure S.S. Gairsoppa silver. The design features Britannia striding along the nation’s coast. The obverse side of this coin features the image of Elizabeth II. Each coin is stamped with its date of issue, and also boasts a coin-edge design lettering denoting "S.S. Gairsoppa" which is stamped and embedded along the Edge of this coin.
